Co-mayors of Amed’s (Diyarbakır) central Sur district municipality, Filiz Buluttekin and Cemal Özdemir, were taken into custody following house raids in Amed on December 20. Police pointed a gun at their head during the detention.

Both co-mayors were remanded in custody on Monday for alleged “membership to a terrorist organization”, while councilor Yılmaz Eken, who had also been detained in the operation, was released after appearing in court.
