The 19th High Criminal Court of Ankara has rejected the application filed by HDP Batman deputy Ayşe Acar Başaran and a group of lawyers on May 15 asking for the release of HDP Presidential candidate Selahattin Demirtaş.

Once the candidacy was accepted, the lawyers applied for the release of Demirtaş, on the grounds that he would need to be able to make a campaign as any other candidate for the 24 June elections.

The court rejected the request to release Demirtaş  saying that it saw insufficient judicial control conditions at this stage and decided to continue the detention.
