Cuban revolution leader Fidel Castro has passed away early Saturday morning at the age of 90.

Cuban revolution leader Fidel Castro has passed away early Saturday morning at the age of 90.

Castro had stated the following in his final speech:

"I will soon be 90, and pass away like the other leaders. Of course, time will come for all of us. Yet, the ideals of Cuban communists will continue to avail for this world and humanity. We should continue to fight for these ideals."

Fidel Alejandro Castro Ruz, a leader of the Cuban revolution, was born on August 13, 1926.

Castro governed the Republic of Cuba as Prime Minister from 1959 to 1976 and as President from 1976 to 2008. He served as the First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba from 1961 until 2011.

In international arena, he served as the Secretary General of the Non-Aligned Movement from 1979 to 1983 and from 2006 to 2008.

Castro transferred his responsibilities to his brother, Vice-President Raul Castro in 2008.
