Danish politicians to Erdogan: release Demirtaş
Former foreign ministers, parliamentarians and politicians demand Demirtaş's release and the execution of the European Court of Human Rights sentence.
Former Danish foreign ministers and 30 lawmakers of the parties called on Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to release Kurdish politician Selahattin Demirtaş.
The letter states that the Erdogan regime's pressure on the democratic opposition continues and reminded that the former leader of the democratic opposition party HDP, who has been imprisoned since 2016, is sentenced to years in prison.
The letter recalls that “Demirtaş became a candidate in the 2018 presidential elections in Turkey while he was in prison. He finished the election in third place with more than four million votes.
In March last year, he extended his five-year sentence to three and a half years. He got it because he insulted President Erdogan.
The European Court of Human Rights has demanded Demirtaş's release many times. latest 2020.
Therefore, the undersigned, demand the execution of the judgment of the European Court of Human Rights, the immediate release of Selahattin Demirtaş and call on the Danish government to actively work towards it in all relevant contexts.”
