Day 135 of Strasbourg resistance

The indefinite non-alternating hunger strike in Strasbourg has continued uninterrupted for 135 and continues to receive visitors.

Thousands of people are on hunger strikes against the absolute isolation imposed upon Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Ocalan that has continued since 2015. The hunger strikes started with DTK Co-chair Leyla Guven on November 7, 2018 and spread throughout prisons in Turkey and various centers around the world.

The indefinite nonalternating hunger strike by 14 activists in Strasbourg launched on December 17, 2018 is on day 135. Hunger strikers’ health continues to deteriorate and doctors say the risk of undesirable outcomes continues to increase.

Kurds living in Europe and allies to the Kurdish people also continue to visit the hunger strikers. A group of Kurds from Draguignan, France visited the activists today. Draguignan DTKM Co-chair Leyla Demirci was present during the visit.

Demirci spoke after the visit and said they saw the activists and they are proud to have done so. She added that the deterioration in the health of the activists has reached a level that can be seen just by looking at them and added that they are concerned.

Demirci said the activists have great morale and that the Kurdish people should rise up en masse against the isolation.

Strasbourg Democratic Kurdish Community Center (DTKM) also called on Kurds for strong participation to the May 1 Workers’ Day celebrations on Wednesday.

May 1 celebrations will start on Wednesday at 10:00 in the Strasbourg Marechal de Lattre de Tassigny Square.
