Day 2 in Bakirkoy Prison sit-in

Relatives of prisoners on hunger strikes against the isolation imposed upon Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Ocalan are holding a sit-in demonstration in front of the Bakirkoy Closed Women’s Prison.
Prisoners’ families have launched a sit-in in front of the Bakirkoy Closed Women’s Prison on Monday after the families in Gebze.
A group of family members moved to join the Gebze vigil on the second day.
The families headed out from Esenler and were stopped by the police, upon which they went to Bakirkoy to support the vigil there.
The families chanted “Biji berxwedana Zindanan” frequently and called for a questioning of conscience, stating that even minutes matter now.
The families said it is already too late to “just speak up” for the hunger strikes, and stressed that no more time should be lost.
A statement released in the name of the families said, “News of deaths could come at any time. There could be caskets. Thus we must lend our voice to the prisons.”
State forces frequently threatened to attack the crowd during the sit-in but the families pushed on. They continued the protest for a while longer and then left the area to continue the sit-in tomorrow. The families ended their march at the Metrobus station.
