Day 41 of resistance against the seizure of municipality in Van

HDP MP Işık called upon the society of Turkey to express their reactions against the usurpation of HDP-run municipalities.

The Democracy Vigil organized by the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) in Van against the appointment of trustees, has reached day 41.

Councillors, HDP (Peace and Democracy Party) deputies and members, Peace Mothers, TJA (Free Women’s Movement) activists and many people attended the Vigil in front of the HDP İpekyolu District Organization building.

Speaking here, HDP Muş MP Mensur Işık recalled Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s words “we will appoint trustees even if they happen to win” that referred to HDP municipalities before the March 31 local elections. He said the AKP had nothing left to give to the people and appointed trustees to the HDP municipalities for this very reason.

Reminding of the two years of trustee administration in Kurdish cities and towns, Işık continued; “The democratic circles and the Kurdish people have never consented to the seizure of HDP municipalities because it is a coup against the people’s will. During the recent years, governors have been acting like employees of a political party. All segments of Turkey’s society should reject the appointment of trustees.”

HDP MP added that the AKP would end up in the dustbin of history like the mindset that prevailed in the 90’s.
