DBP elects new party leadership at the 5th Ordinary Congress

Today the 5th Ordinary Congress of the Democratic Regions Party (DBP) has taken place in Ankara. Saliha Aydeniz and Keskin Bayındır have been elected new co-chairs of the party.

The 5th Ordinary Congress of the Democratic Regions Party (DBP) has taken place today in Ankara under the motto "With the spirit of national unity we march to freedom". The congress focused on measures for national unity, which is crucial for the solution of the Kurdish question. In particular at a time like this, in which the achievements of the Kurdish population are attacked in all parts of Kurdistan, the emergence of a national unity is indispensable, it was said in speeches and messages to the congress.

At the beginning of the meeting, the executive committee first gave a self-critical review of the past year in the party. Criticism and self-criticism are one of the most important and central methods of the DBP, with which a renewal process is strained. During extensive debates for the roadmap of the coming year, which focused on the situation of the Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan, who is again exposed to total isolation on the prison island Imrali, it was decided that the lifting of the isolation is elementary for a successful solution of the Kurdish question.

After a break, the 75 delegates went on to elect the new party leadership. Saliha Aydeniz and Keskin Bayındır are the new chairpersons of the party, which pursues the principle of gender-parity dual leadership.

The following names were elected to the Party Council: Bekir Karageçili, Celal Yoldaş, Cemile Turhanlı, Dilaver İnal, Emine Caynak, Emrah Koç, Eşref Yaşar, Fatih Pekediş, Fikriye Aytin, Gülşen Sincar, Hatice Kiye, İhsan Babaoğlu, Mehmet Şirin Tunç, Mesut Uçar, Murat Kan, Mustafa Işık, Nazım Kök, Safiye Akdağ, Veysi Gunti and Zeynep Üren.

The substitute members of the party council are: Ejder Ekinci, Felek Erdem, Ferhat Akıncı, Leyla Bahatır, Mahmut Taşkıran, Medya Tağay, Mehmet Ergün, Mukadder Binici, Ramazan Dengiz, Serhat Çakmak, Şirin Altay, Tahir Özdemir, Vahdettin Kılıç, Yakup Demir and Zeynep Örbacı.

The names elected for the Central Disciplinary Board are: Bağver Mızrak, Gazel Taş, Mahmut Kaygusuz, Mehmet Nuri Özmen, Muhterem Özgen, Nalan Gözen and Sabahattin Dinç. Substitute members are Kurtbeddin Kurt and Rıdvan Aslan.
