The death toll in the artillery assault against Esrefiye, the neighbourhood of Aleppo, on Thursday rose to 20. Four children are reported to be among the casualties.
Two more bodies, of 45 year-old Eyub Subhi Arif and his wife Fatma Bekir Hebes, have been found in the wreckage caused by the assault on Saturday.
Around 40 people were wounded in the attack against the neighbourhood of Aleppo, mostly inhabited by Kurdish people. Four of the wounded lost their life on Friday.
Around 600 thousand Kurds live in the Kurdish neighborhoods of Sheikh Maksoud and Esrefiye in Syria’s second largest city Aleppo. Security in both neighborhoods is ensured by People’s Defense Units forces.
The Kurdish neighborhoods have been subjected to attacks by both the Syrian regime and different armed groups since early September of 2012. Dozens of people died and hundreds of others were wounded in the attacks.
