Demirtaş and Mızraklı shave their hair for Mahsa Amini

The Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) announced that its jailed former Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaş and Amed’s Co-mayor Selçuk Mızraklı had shaved their hair for Mahsa Amini who was murdered by the morality police in Tehran.

Former HDP Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaş and former Co-Mayor of Amed (Diyarbakır) Selçuk Mızraklı, both of whom are jailed, shaved their hair to protest the murder of Amini and support the resistance in Iran.

Demirtaş issued a written statement, saying the following:

“We deeply feel the pain of Mahsa Amini who was murdered by the Iranian 'morality police' because a part of her hair was visible.

Resisting oppression and persecution is not only the responsibility of women. To support the struggle for equality and freedom, led by brave women, and to endorse the people resisting for freedom in Iran, my prison mate Dr. Selçuk Mızraklı and I shaved our hair today.

All the oppressive and tyrannical regimes will eventually collapse in the face of the people's resistance. We praise those who are currently resisting.

We express our condolences to Amini’s family and our people. We also show our feelings of solidarity.”
