Demirtaş: German parliamentarians support the peace process

Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş, speaking to ANF about the meetings and talks he had in the German capital Berlin since early this week, said he had observed an intense interest in Germany in the process of talks Kurdish leader Öcalan has launched in search of a democratic and peaceful solution to the Kurdish question.

After attending the International Conference on West Kurdistan in Berlin on Wednesday, Demirtaş met authorities of the German government and deputies of the Green and Left Party, CDU, FDP and the undersecretary of the Foreign Ministry.

Referring to his observations on how German parliamentarians approached the process of talks for a solution to the Kurdish problem, Demirtaş said, "They are following the process closely and they see that the solution process has had an influence on the balances of the Middle East as well. I believe our talks have also provided them with more details on the process".

Demirtaş said representatives of all parties supported the peace process, adding "Some parties said they were planning to send delegations to Kurdistan to observe the situation at scene and to hold special sessions at the parliament on the subject". Demirtaş commented the approach of German parties as an indication that the German government would undergo a change in its policy.

Referring to the meeting with the undersecretary of the Foreign Ministry, Demirtaş said the German officials said the government supported this process and sided with peace as a solution to the Kurdish question.

BDP co-chair noted that during the meetings BDP executives had also put emphasis that European countries should also undergo a change in their official approach towards PKK (Kurdistan Workers Party), the repression and terrorization of Kurdish establishments and the arrest of Kurdish politicians in Europe. "We also proposed the exclusion of PKK from the list of 'terrorist organizations' considering Öcalan and PKK's determined stance siding with the ending of violence. We said the way should be opened for PKK's involvement in politics. They said they will bring the subject to the agenda", he noted.

It is interesting that the representatives of all establishments we met asked us whether Erdoğan was sincere about the peace process or not, Demirtaş said and explained the reason of this doubt as AKP government's contradictory practices.
