Demirtaş: Öcalan's call definitive and irreversible
Speaking to DIHA (Dicle News Agency) about Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan's historic call to lay down arms on 21 March in Amed, Peace and Democracy Party Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaş evaluated the Kurdish leader's message as a direct, definitive and irreversible call and a strategical move.
Demirtaş remarked that PKK (Kurdistan Workers 'Party) militants might withdraw from Turkish borders by August if the Parliament passed legislation to facilitate the process. BDP co-chair noted that they suggested the establishment of an official and a civil commission in the process of PKK's withdrawal when- he underlined- all circles should do their full share of work.
"The 99 percent of Kurdish armed struggle is over now. The rest depends on the government. Kurdish denial is over, the identity is achieved, he stated.
Referring to PM Erdoğan's criticism on the absence of Turkish flags at Newroz celebrations in Diyarbakır, Demirtaş said they had no problem with the Turkish flag.
"The Kurdish society has no objection or hostility against the flag of the Turkish Republic which represents the state and every citizen living in this country. Kurds find the imposition of the Turkish flag by racist circles problematic as they have no problem with the Turkish flag at all", he underlined.
Demirtaş also said a fourth delegation should go to Imrali island to meet Öcalan.
