HDP (Peoples' Democratic Party) Co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş was detained as a result of a house raid in Amed last night. Earlier today he was referred to court which ordered his arrest for “spreading terrorist propaganda" and "praising crimes and criminals".

Demirtaş sent a hand written message through his lawyer Mahsuni Kahraman who read it in front of the Courthouse.

The message of the HDP Co-chair read:

"We are facing with another stage of the ongoing civilian coup led by the AKP and Palace. Me and my friends will continue to stand tall against this unlawful civilian coup everywhere and at every stage. We want it to be known that we will remain strictly loyal to the democracy, freedom and peace struggle our people are giving devotedly. These days of atrocity will end sooner or later in the face of our resistance. Those who think they will be able to break our will only confirm their misery with such cheap conspiracies. No matter what the circumstances are, we will continue our democratic political struggle and we will keep reiterating our call for peace. With my sincere regards and greetings to all the friends.”
