Demirtaþ: AKP pursues “war at home, war abroad” policy

Speaking at the Van District Congress of the Peace and Democracy Party (BDP), party co-chair Selahattin Demirtaþ reminded of the Van earthquake that struck eastern city of Van in October 2011 and pointed out that the people of Van had to pass the last winter in their own nylon tents due to the negligence of the government which –he noted- has spent four and a half billion dollars in concern with the Syrian crisis.

Demirtaþ said the followings referring to Prime Minister Erdoðan, the leader of the ruling AK party government; “There is no proper word than racism and fascism for your calling yourself a Muslim, a human being and the leader of a democracy government regardless of the fact that you avoid spending money for the people who have gone through an earthquake in your country while spending a pile of money in order to trigger a war with another country.”

The people of Van have struggled against not only the earthquake disaster but also the cruelty of the Turkish state, BDP co-chair said and continued putting emphasis on Erdoðan’s efforts to hide the ongoing war in the country.

Demirtaþ reminded of Erdoðan’s statement in which he had denied the presence of a war in Þemdinli and accused Demirtaþ of lying about the situation in the region. BDP co-chair continued responding to the criticism directed at himself because of his statements on the presence of guerrilla domination in Þemdinli area and added that; “I am saying this in order to expose the war and the danger there so that all sides could come together and discuss the ways of dialogue and negotiation. However, the PM accuses me of telling a lie while he himself has admitted in another speech of his that PKK (Kurdistan Workers Party) militants can easily detain a governor of the AKP and set up control points on roads within the boundaries of the Turkish state.”

Responding to Erdoðan’s “There is no Kurdish problem” definition, Demirtaþ said that “Besides the problem of mentality and fascism, there is also the problem of Tayyip Erdoðan for the country now.”

BDP co-chair summarized AKP policies as “war at home, war abroad” and indicated dialogue and negotiation as the resolution of the Kurdish issue which –he underlined- Ankara cannot get over by resorting to ways other than the negotiation demand of

Kurdish people’s leader Abdullah Öcalan, the KCK (Kurdistan Communities Union), the DTK (Democratic Society Congress) and the BDP.
