Speaking to a group of journalists after the group meeting in Parliament on Tuesday, Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) co-chair Selahattin Demirtaþ evaluated the current talks with Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan as “negotiation attempts”, reported Milliyet daily on Wednesday.
"As a mere formality, debates on negotiations cannot possibly be brought to the table unless some conditions are put into practice", said Demirtaþ and remarked that Öcalan should have the opportunity to personally contact with the organization he leads, the PKK (Kurdistan Workers Party), so that talks could pave the way for negotiations. Demirtaþ underlined that the armed forces should also be part of the negotiations, adding “The delegation conducting talks with the Kurdish leader is also aware of this fact as they know very well that this process cannot progress without the involvement of all of the parties involved in the conflict.”
Asked about the possibility of talks with the KCK (Kurdistan Communities Union), the BDP co-chair said that KCK organization should also be included in the process of talks.
Demirtaþ noted that the second meeting with the Kurdish leader in Imralý should take place in the coming weeks and underlined that co-chairs of the BDP should also take part in the delegation for the second meeting.
BDP co-chair noted that main opposition party CHP's contribution to the efforts for talks will contribute to the health of the process.
Asked about who decided on the names of Ahmet Türk and Ayla Akat for the visit to Imralý, Demirtaþ said that “these names were agreed between Imralý, the government and the BDP.”
Referring to a recent visit he paid to the Norway ambassador, Demirtaþ said that; “The ambassador asked for a meeting with me to learn about the views of both sides involved in talks. They will also have a meeting with the government as they are trying to get an idea of what is going on. They are available to re-host talks between two sides.”
