Demo in solidarity with Kurdish activist Ali Wazir

The Kurds and their friends met once again in front of the UN to support Ali Wazir from Rojava, who set himself on fire to protest the UN silence on the Turkish occupation.

Ali Wazir from Rojava set himself on fire in front on the UN to protest the United Nations and international forces, who have been silent on the Turkish state invasion and genocide attacks on North East Syria. His condition remains serious.

Kurds and their friends met in front of the UN to express solidarity with Wazir.

Salih Sağlam, co-chair of the Geneva Democratic Kurdish Community Centers, said: "Everyone should know that the attacks today are directed not only against the people of Rojava, but  against the whole of Kurdistan and the whole Kurdish people. Defending Rojava should be the main duty of every Kurd. The resistance in Rojava is a resistance to protect Kurdistan."

Sağlam added: "No one should think that the Kurds are without options. Wherever we are in the world, we consider ourselves under attack if our country and our land are attacked. Ali with his action answered to this attack."

Ali Wazir's brother, Mizgin Wazir said that his brother action was meaningful to them and that everyone should take to the streets to defend Rojava. Wazir said: "My brother reminded the UN that he had the duty to defend humanity but forgot about it when it came to the Kurds. This action is against silence. We may be in Europe, but we are ready for anything to defend our land. Today, there are hundreds of Rojava young people who are outraged like Ali. Let the whole world know that."

American academic Thoreau Redcrow said that US President Donald Trump has betrayed the Kurdish people. "It is a shame for the United States to leave the Kurdish people alone after what they have done against ISIS."

Following the speeches, the crowd marched in front of the UN Refugee High Commissioner's Office, where Ali Wazir set himself on fire.
