Democracy Vigil against the seizure of HDP-run municipality continued in Amed on day 41.
For 41 days, a democracy vigil has been held in Amed (Diyarbakir) in protest at the removal of the elected mayor Adnan Selçuk Mızraklı of the HDP.
The co-mayor elected in the local elections of March 31 was replaced on August 19 by a trustee appointed by the Turkish Ministry of the Interior.
In addition to Mızraklı, members of the HDP, activists of the women's movement TJA and the Peace Mothers, board members of the Medical Association of Turkey, the Chairman of the Communist Party of Kurdistan (KKP) Sinan Çiftyürek, and many others participated in today's vigil. The rally site on the Lise Caddesi, near the Town Hall, was cordoned off by police, and water cannons and armored vehicles were deployed in the area.
Speeches made at the vigil criticized the constant violation of Kurdish population’s right to elect and be elected.
Adnan Selçuk Mızraklı, like his fellow HDP colleagues in Van and Mardin and in the districts of Kulp and Karayazı, won the last municipal elections by a large majority of the vote.
