A Democracy Vigil has began in Izmir to protest the appointment by the AKP of trustees to the HDP-run muncipalities of Amed, Van and Mardin.
The decision to organise a Democracy Vigil in front of the Alsancak Turkan Saylan Cultural Center in Izmir was also a warn to everybody, as the AKP could decide to seize other municipalities too.
HDP deputies Serpil Kemalbay, Ayşe Sürücü, Şevin Coşkun, Musa Piroğlu and Habip Eksik joined the Democracy Watch which saw a heavy police presence.
Speaking at the sit-in action HDP Istanbul Deputy Musa Piroğlu said: "The HDP will continue to protect the will of the people. We will continue to struggle until the palace is brought down. We will continue to struggle until the peoples of the country, the workers, women, peasants and children can live in a free society. To remain silent about the trustee in Diyarbakir is to be quiet in Istanbul. To remain silent about the trustee in Van is to surrender to power in Adana and Izmir. We will not surrender and we will continue to resist. We know that we will win."
HDP deputy Habib Eksik pointed out the harassment by police and underlined that the unlawful practices continue. Eksik condemned the decision by police to prevent the press from assisting to the Vigil.
