When you look at the state of the parties in Turkey, you realise how necessary appears to be the HDP.

Turkey needs democracy. And this, which requires fundamental changes in mind, political understanding and social life, can only be achieved through a democratic revolution.

Undoubtedly, in Turkey and Kurdistan a struggle for a democratic revolution has been going on for ten years. The accumulation created by this struggle needs to be crowned with democracy. The most important party to contribute to the democratization in the field of legal political struggle is the HDP.

There is no doubt that the result of the democratic revolution in Turkey cannot be delivered only by the struggle of the HDP. Should the HDP think so, it would make a big mistake.

However, how important a party this is in the struggle for democratisation in Turkey, has emerged clearly, and on the process leading to the elections of 24 June, it will become even more apparent how it is the main party in the democratic political space.

The fundamental factor in keeping AKP in power is the policy can be sum up in: 'I am the best of the Kurdish enemy, I am the best to carry out the genocide of Kurds’.

The AKP bases its power on this and considers both Kurds and the democracy forces related to the Kurds as its greatest enemy. Hostility to democracy in Turkey is carried out following such an approach.

The most concrete expression of this is to show the PKK and HDP as traitors. In the past, this language was used only for the PKK; now the HDP falls into the same category as the PKK. The aim is to completely annihilate the HDP. Those close to HDP or related with it, will be treated as traitors. It is this approach that determines the character of fascist power in Turkey.

Now on the one hand there is a discourse opposed to the Erdogan dictatorship and AKP-MHP fascism, while at the same time this very dictatorship is somehow accepted or legitimized.

The HDP is the only party opening opposed to the Erdogan dictatorship and AKP-MHP fascism. The others, including the CHP, are actually much softer in their approach, because to stand firmly against the AKP-MHP will mean somehow get out of the open hostility to the Kurdish struggle for democracy.

As a matter of fact, this is the reason why there not a real and open struggle against the AKP-MHP fascism and Erdogan dictatorship. Opposition parties have shown that they are neither consistent nor courageous against the fascist when they failed to include Kurds and HDP in any electoral alliance discourse.

Undoubtedly, it would be wrong to equal these opposition parties with the AKP-MHP fascism and Erdogan dictatorship. At this point it is important to fight against the AKP-MHP fascism. If we call the AKP-MHP government, fascist, it is important to create the largest anti-fascist front against it.

It is therefore not right to target this parties who oppose this fascism. There is no doubt that the HDP provides a real democratic alternative political force in Turkey and plays a key role in the democratization of Turkey.

From this point of view, it is very important that the real democratic and left forces gather around the HDP in this election. All democracy forces and socialists have a historic responsibility to secure the best of results for the HDP in this election. Strengthening the HDP is to strengthen the struggle for democracy that they have carried up to now.

Now two basic alliances have been established. The first is the AKP-MHP fascist alliance. The second is another alliance of sovereign classes that suffered from this fascist power. There is a need for alliance of strong democracy and popular forces against them. The political power to provide this is HDP.

All democratic forces, socialists and popular forces should know that if the HDP won’t overcome the threshold, if it doesn’t reach a strong position, then there is no chance that the AKP will be weakened.

If the AKP is going to be defeated, it will be because the HDP, the only force that can achieve that, has reached a strong position.

This is why the Kurds and Alevis, who will attain real democracy and freedom, should gather around the HDP. The Kurds will already vote for the HDP in this election. Even the Kurds who voted for the AKP will shift to the HDP in this election.

However, for the HDP to be able to overcome the threshold it is important that the Alevi sector vote for it. The Alevis must see that this religious, sectarian fascist alliance will not be defeated should the HDP not overcome the threshold. In this respect, the voting of the Alevis to HDP is important in their fight for freedom and democracy.

All left-wing groups and democrats, especially the Socialists, should bring the HDP to a strong position, stronger than the one achieved in the past elections. The success of the HDP will be their success. A strong left-democracy alliance should be formed around the HDP, to push out the AKP-MHP and enhance the struggle for democracy.

The most important goal of the AKP-MHP alliance is to secure the HDP won’t overcome the threshold. Because they are desperate to eliminate the most important democratic force from the arena.

Thus, the AKP-MHP fascism will have it much easier. This is why the formation of a strong democratic alliance around the HDP should be seen as the most basic democratic stance today.
