Demonstration in Marseille denounces Turkish chemical attacks and war crimes

In Marseille, activists staged a performance to draw attention to Turkey's war crimes in Kurdistan and demanded an immediate intervention of the OPCW against the use of chemical weapons - even if the perpetrator is a NATO state.

On Friday, a protest took place in Marseille against the use of chemical weapons by the Turkish army in Kurdistan. After a demonstration last Saturday to draw attention to Turkish war crimes, Kurdish activists held a performance yesterday at Via Port Square to draw attention to the silence of the international community regarding the actions of the Erdogan regime, which are contrary to international and human rights. The participants wore white protective suits and carried photos of 17 guerrilla fighters killed by poison gas with the inscription "I was murdered by NATO chemical weapons".

After a minute's silence in memory of those killed in the Kurdish liberation struggle, a statement was read out calling for immediate intervention by the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW). The activists pointed out that there has been evidence of the use of banned weapons by Turkey in Southern Kurdistan since last year. “The OPCW was founded to prevent the use of chemical weapons and should not refuse to investigate the allegations. Even if the perpetrator is a NATO state, the OPCW must fulfil its founding purpose and act immediately," the activists demanded.
