Demonstrations in France demand “Freedom for Öcalan”

Activists in France demand that Abdullah Öcalan be allowed to meet with his lawyers and family and, ultimately, freed under conditions that allow him to play a role in finding a just and democratic political solution to the decades-old Kurdish question.

Kurds and their friends staged marches in Parisian suburbs as part of the international campaign launched on 10 October demanding “Freedom of Abdullah Öcalan and a political solution to the Kurdish question.” The campaign, which was launched simultaneously in over a hundred places all around the world on 10 October, unites social movements, political parties, municipalities, trade unions, activists, intellectuals and millions of Kurds and people in solidarity with the Kurdish liberation struggle worldwide around a common goal: the participation of Abdullah Öcalan in a dialogue for a just and democratic political solution to the Kurdistan question in Turkey, which has remained unresolved for more than a century.

During the demonstrations in the suburbs of Drancy, Evry and Villiers-le-Bel, activists protested against the isolation of Abdullah Öcalan and demanded his physical freedom.

Further demonstrations with the same demand were staged in Normandia and Rennes.

Demonstrators also protested against the Turkish state’s genocidal campaign against the Kurdish people in various parts of Kurdistan.
