The ruling AKP government is changing greean areas in Diyarbakır to housing zones while planning to form city forests in many other cities. The Ministry of Environment and Urban Planning has yet taken another action against the natural beauties of the main Kurdish city Diyarbakır /Amed.
The Ministry has announced the “City Forest” to be "reserve housing zone" amid reactions against the recent same decision on eight thousand years old Hevsel Gardens and action for building three new hydroelectric power plants on the Dicle River passing through the city.
The area designated by Amed and Kayapınar Municipality as City Forest and City Park will be handed over the TOKİ (Housing Development Administration of Turkey). The municipalities have made planting works in a large area of the park so far.
Another afforested park on the Musa Anter Avenue in the Kayapınar district will also be transformed into a housing zone upon the Ministry's decision.
