Detained ISIS members' legal status discussed at UN side event

The event is organised by MRAP (Mouvement contre le Racisme et pour l’Amitié entre les Peuples) in collaboration with the Geneva Academy.

A side event titled "Members of armed groups detained in Northern Syria: their legal status and their future" will take place tomorrow, Tuesday, at the Palais des Nations, during the 42nd session of the UN Human Rights Council.

Several thousands of men, women and children of ISIS detained by the Kurdish liberation forces are in a judicial limbo. The side event aims at assessing the situation and seeking possible solutions to this judicial limbo.

The event is organised by MRAP (Mouvement contre le Racisme et pour l’Amitié entre les Peuples) in collaboration with the Geneva Academy.

Panelists are:

Prof. Marco Sassoli – Director, Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights; Prof. Agnes Calamard – UN Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions; Dr. Khaled Issa – Representative of the Northern Syria Administration in France.

The panel will be moderated by Mr. Gianfranco Fattorini – Former Co-president of the Mouvement contre le Racisme et pour l’Amitié entre les Peuples (MRAP).
