DISK takes to the streets
The confederation of Progressive Trade Unions of Turkey (DİSK) is taking to the streets on 15-16 June to mark the 43rd anniversary of the workers' strike in 1970.
On 16 June, 1970, workers realised an important strike at the shipyards’ zone of Tuzla, Istanbul that resulted in the stoppage of 60% of the production. The one-day strike had quite a broad impact.
According to a statement released by DİSK headquarters, DİSK members in İstanbul, Ankara, Adana, Antalya, Bursa, Edirne, Eskişehir, Gaziantep, İzmir, Samsun, Kocaeli, Konya and Mersin will be taking to the streets for two days as of today to display a dignified struggle against the repressive and authoritarian system and its cruelty people are facing for many years now.
DİSK added that "The working class continues resisting and fighting against AKP's dictatorship in the light of the 15-16 June resistance in 1970.
