During protests against the appointment of a trustee to the municipality in Akdeniz, police hit 20-year-old Furkan Özen with an armored vehicle on the evening of the demonstration. The police then battered Özen and detained him. He was taken to the Provincial Police Department, where he recounted the violence he experienced through his lawyer.
Özen said: "The armored vehicle reversed and ran over me. I was beaten both while on the ground and inside the armored vehicle. They took me to the hospital, but the doctor did not examine me. Even though I showed my injuries, the doctor did not examine me. They took me back to the police station."
Özen's lawyer noted that there were visible signs of beatings on his client, who also had swelling under both eyes. The lawyer said: "There is a 4-5 cm abrasion on his right knee and scratches on the left side of his abdomen. My client is currently in custody at the Anti-Terror Branch (TEM)."
