Tens of people were detained during the events to commemorate the victims of October 10 massacre in Ankara, Çanakkale and İstanbul.
ANKARA
Police detained at least 71 people during their attack on events to commemorate the victims of October 10 massacre where 100 people had lost their lives in Turkish capital Ankara last year. Police closed all the roads leading up to the Train Station in Ankara, attacked protestors and took dozens into custody. At least 71 people were detained in Sıhhiye, Abdi İpekçi, Ziya Gökalp, Hipodrom, GMK Boulevard, Tandoğan, Konur and Selanik regions of Ankara, including the people that had survived the massacre. People that had nothing to do with the protests were also detained and beaten by the police.
Lawyers such as the Libertarian Lawyers Association (ÖHD) Co-President Alişan Şahin, Gülşen Uzuner, Didem Ünsal, Hülya Yıldırım and Onur Yaylacı were also beaten and taken into custody.
ÇANAKKALE
Police attacked an October 10 commemoration event in 18 Mart University in Çanakkale, beating and detaining at least 30 students here.
ISTANBUL
Police staged a crackdown an October 10 commemoration event in İstanbul University Literature Faculty, eating and detaining at least 15 students here. Police attacked the students for a second time in the central campus and detained at least 30 students.
PEOPLE SINGING IN KURDISH DETAINED
Police detained Muhammed Ubin, Sadık İlter and Oktay Karataş, who were singing in Kurdish on İstiklal Street in Beyoğlu, İstanbul, as well as Ayşegül Özcan and Zilan Balta that were dancing during the music performance. Ubin, İlter and Karataş were soon released but Özcan and Balta were kept at Taksim Police Station. The two women were taken to Haseki State Hospital for a medical examination, and are being kept at the police station at the moment. Police officers are reported to have battered one of the detained women.
