Dozens of deputies from several socialist, ecologist, communist and liberal parties within the body of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) have signed a declaration protesting the arrest of the Co-chairs and MPs of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), the third biggest party in the parliament of Turkey.

The PACE members voiced deep concerns over the arrest of HDP officials and described the imprisonment of HDP MPs as Turkish authorities' bare violation of democracy and Turkey's failure to observe its responsibilities within the framework of the European Convention on Human Rights.

Calling for the release of the HDP Co-chairs and deputies who were arrested on November 4, PACE members called on the Council of Europe and member states to act against the witch hunt which leaves everyone who doesn't support Erdoğan facing a risk of getting arrested or convicted.
