Earthquake in Kurtalan: Hospital evacuated, HDP visits victims

A 5.1 magnitude earthquake struck the Kayabağlar town in Siirt's Kurtalan district at 08:45 Thursday morning. The earthquake, which occurred at 5 kilometers depth, was felt in many surrounding cities such as Amed, Mardin, Batman, Antep, and Şırnak.
While many buildings were damaged in the Kurtalan district center, it is reported that the people who came out of the buildings after the earthquake could not enter their homes for fear. The anxious wait of the people in the open spaces in the district continues. It is stated that no officials have visited the region after the earthquake.
It is further reported that in the Karabağ village of Kayabağlar, the epicenter of the earthquake, several mud-brick houses were demolished and 2 people were slightly injured.
THE HOSPITAL DAMAGED AND EVACUATED
Kurtalan State Hospital was also damaged by the earthquake. Many patients here were transferred to Siirt State Hospital, while Kurtalan State Hospital was completely evacuated. Some patients were removed to tents set up by the National Medical Rescue Team (UMKE).
HDP HELPS LOCAL PEOPLE
After the earthquake, a delegation comprising Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Group Deputy Chair Meral Danış Beştaş and Siirt Deputy Sıddık Taş, HDP Party Assembly members and provincial administrators visited the local residents and tradesmen who are staying in the parks in the earthquake zone. It is reported that the delegation, who received information about the earthquake from officials by phone, will make a statement after the examinations.
