Earthquake kills at least four people in İzmir

A 6.9 magnitude earthquake has left several buildings demolished and at least four people dead in the province of İzmir, west of Turkey.

An earthquake of 6.9 magnitude shook the Seferihisar district of Turkey’s İzmir province on Friday. A number of buildings were demolished and reports are coming through of people buried under the rubble.

According to information announced by AFAD (Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency), the earthquake occurred at 14:51 local time, at 16,54 km depth and 17 km off the coast of Seferihisar district in the Aegean Sea.

According to initial reports, at least four people lost their lives while a number of buildings were demolished in the central Bornova and Bayraklı districts.

People have been evacuated from the damaged buildings across the city.

At least four people have been rescued in a wounded state in the Manavkuyu neighborhood in Bayraklı district.
