Ehmed and Swedish politicians call for no-fly zone over N. Syria

During her talks with Swedish government officials in Stockholm, Kurdish politician Ilham Ehmed from Rojava reiterated their demand for a no-fly zone over northern Syria.

Syrian Democratic Council (MSD) co-chair Ilham Ehmed met on Wednesday morning with politicians from the seven parties represented in the Swedish parliament to provide detailed information on the current situation with regard to the Turkish war of aggression against the Federation of North and East Syria.

Ilham Ehmed stated that the autonomous administration had to conclude a military agreement with Russia and Syria to protect the population from the massacres of Turkey and its jihadist mercenaries: "The people know that they have been stabbed in the back by the US and the forces of the international anti-ISIS. None of the promises we were given has been kept. A ceasefire that provides for the continued presence of Turkey in the occupied locations would not be acceptable to us.”

During the meeting, all factions spoke out against the Turkish war of aggression.

In the afternoon, Ilham Ehmed met with the Minister for Foreign Affairs Ann Linde and Defense Minister Peter Hultqvist. In the separate talks, the Kurdish politician addressed the fierce fighting, especially in Serêkaniyê (Ras al-Ain) and Girê Spî (Tal Abyad), pointing out that 300,000 people were displaced by the ongoing attacks. Another topic of conversation was the flight of hundreds of ISIS members from prisons and camps in northern Syria, made possible by the Turkish invasion.

Ilham Ehmed demanded economic sanctions and a temporary suspension of diplomatic relations from the Swedish government, as well as support for the establishment of a no-fly zone.

Swedish Foreign Minister Ann Linde described the invasion as a violation of international law and said that her government is taking action at EU level to stop the Turkish invasion war against northern Syria.
