The EHP chair, Hakan Öztürk, said that the Labor and Freedom Alliance would first send away the one-man regime and then would continue to fight for the solutions to deep-rooted issues.
The Labor Movement Party (EHP) chair, Hakan Öztürk, told ANF that not nominating a candidate for the Presidency actually provides an important opportunity for the Labor and Freedom Alliance, and added that they opened the door for democracy.
Öztürk said: "We are faced with a very big issue, because everyone by now has seen how despotic the one-man regime is. We are faced with a very bad picture in terms of economic conditions. The wage, which we now call the minimum wage, goes in parallel with the hunger line. It is even below the poverty line most of the time. Similarly, there is the issue of unemployment. After a certain period of time, people give up looking for a job and lose hope of finding one. That's why we need to be one body against the one-man regime."
The Labor and Freedom Alliance took the decision not to nominate a presidential candidate to create a different climate, said Öztürk, adding: "We are actually opening a door. Streets lead to the sea, but first you have to enter a street and cross the steppe. At the moment there are all favorable conditions for the recovery of forces. We must be united and become the one punch that ends the one-man regime. The fact that HDP did not nominate a candidate as the third party with the most votes in the country should be appreciated. The parties in the Alliance for Labor and Freedom get along very well. It shows how consistent we are. First of all, this decision can be looked at as a self-sacrifice of our HDP comrades."
Let's get rid of this government first
Stating that their priority is to get rid of the current government, and fight for more fundamental issues later, Öztürk added: "There are issues that need to be changed radically in Turkey. We have serious problems from health to the economy and we have basic solutions, but we must gather the biggest social opposition to overthrow the one-man regime first. The Labor and Freedom Alliance is doing its best to achieve this."
