Eleven people have been remanded in custody for joining Gezi protests in the western province of İzmir.

At least fifteen had been taken into custody following an expansive İzmir-centered Gezi operation police carried out in four cities early Friday morning, including Bursa, Balıkesir and Manisa. The detainees, who were all brought to İzmir after the operation, were referred to court late Monday evening.

The court arrested eleven among them for allegedly "damaging public property", "being members of an illegal organization" and "provoking people".

With the most recent arrests, the number Gezi protestors arrested in İzmir rose to 48.
