Emergency meeting at the Turkish parliament

After the coup attempt of last night, the General Assembly of the Parliament is holding an emergency meeting led by Parliament President İsmail Kahraman.

After the coup attempt of last night, the General Assembly of the Parliament has started an emergency meeting. Parliament President İsmail Kahraman is leading the meeting at the parliament, which was bombed during the coup attempt.

Kahraman opened the meeting and stated that the presidents of 3 parties would make speeches. Kahraman said the coup attempt would fail and the parliament would continue to represent the will of the people. He stated that 3 of the groups in the parliament attended the meeting, and that the HDP group wanted to join the meeting but did not come to the parliament in order to prevent provocations.

Minister of Justice Bekir Bozdağ spoke after Kahraman, and described today as a historic day for Turkey. Bozdağ described the events as an illegal coup attempt.

The meeting continues, and the Parliament TV is unable to broadcast because of yesterday’s bombardment.
