Environmentalists protesting Kaz Mountains gold mine detained

Eight environmentalists who were marching from Istanbul to Ankara to protest against the gold mine project in Kaz Mountains were taken into custody.

Eight environmentalists members of the Istanbul Solidarity, members and volunteers of Water and Conscience Vigil who had begun a march from Istanbul Kadiköy to Ankara in order to draw attention to the gold mine project to be carry out in the Kaz Mountains by Canadian Alamos Gold and its local subcontractor Doğu Biga Madencilik were taken into custody by police.

The detainees were taken to Küçükyalı Police Station.

The names of the eight environmentalists are: Murat Akbas, Koray Turkay, Kerem Gursu, Onur Akceylan, Canan Hakko, Kaan Meric, Cenk Usta, Eymen Demircan.
