Erdoğan discussions in Germany: Turks are lacking in integration

The voters in Germany choosing Turkish President Erdoğan in the June 24 elections have relaunched the discussions of harmony. According to Merkel’s party, Turks “are lacking in integration”.

64.7% of voters in Germany voted for Erdoğan and 55.6% for AKP in the June 24 elections. Germany is among the countries in Europe where Erdoğan garners the most votes.

These votes for the dictator have brought the question of “integration” to the table in Germany, Austria and various other countries.

Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer, Secretary General for the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) led by Angela Merkel, said Turks “are lacking in integration”.

Kramp-Karrenbauer said Erdoğan receiving 65% support “makes one think”, and added: “We must question why the people in question consider themselves Turkish and not citizens of Germany, also due to the mistakes in the past about integration.”

German press is also concerned with the issue. But Merkel still favors the continuation of the cooperation with the fascist regime in Turkey. Merkel congratulated Erdoğan and continues to praise the controversial refugee deal between the EU and Turkey. Human rights and refugee organizations say the deal goes against human rights and international law.

Alice Weidel, Parliamentary Group Chair of the far right Alternative for Germany (AfD), demands an end to the cooperation with Turkey through the refugee deal.

Sarah Wagenknecht, Parliamentary Group Chair of Die Linke, stated that negotiations between Turkey and the EU should be ended after Erdoğan’s “victory” in the elections.
