The German government expressed harsh reactions to Erdoğan's call on Turkish people in Germany not to vote for parties that are "enemies of Turkey". The German Foreign Minister called Erdogan's meddling an 'unprecedented interference into internal affairs'.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan called on Turkish voters living in Germany to not vote the parties that oppose the policies of the Turkish state in the general election on September 24.

Erdoğan named especially the CDU [Christian Democratic Union], SPD [Social Democrats] and the Green Party when he talked about "Enemies of Turkey" who he said should be rejected by voters.

German Foreign Minister and SPD member, Sigmar Gabriel, strongly criticised Erdoğan's words, and stated that, "This is an unprecedented act of interference in the German elections. Erdoğan intends to pit the people in Germany against each other", and called on all peoples living in Germany to counteract influence by Erdoğan.

Some of the Turkish institutions in Germany have also reportedly expressed indignation to the Turkish President's words.
