ESP co-chair Şahin Tümüklü and six others sent to prison

Seven people, including ESP co-chair Şahin Tümüklü, Green Left Party candidate Müslüm Koyun and ETHA editor Nadiye Gürbüz, were arrested in the police political operation carried out in Istanbul and Eskişehir.

As part of two separate police political operations carried out by the Istanbul and Eskişehir Chief Public Prosecutor's Offices, raids were carried out on 30 April on the houses of many people, including candidates of the Greens and Left Future Party (Green Left Party).

A total of 23 people, including Istanbul candidate Burcu Ayyıldız, Eskişehir candidate Müslüm Koyun and İzmir candidate Meryem Yıldırım, were taken into custody together with Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP) co-chair Şahin Tümüklü, ETHA News Agency journalist Nadiye Gürbüz, Socialist Women's Councils (SKM) and Socialist Youth Associations Federation (SGDF) members.

The detainees in Istanbul were accused of the press conferences they participated in, the political activities they carried out, and the statements and actions they made to react to the massacre of HPG guerrillas as a result of the chemical weapons used by Turkey in the attacks against Zap, Avaşîn and Metina. The Prosecutor's Office requested the arrest of 13 people and referred them to the Criminal Judgeship of Peace.

The judge remanded in custody ESP co-chair Şahin Tümüklü, ETHA editor Nadiye Gürbüz, Kalender Polat, Sinem Çelebi, Adnan Özcan, Selvinaz Göçmez.

In Eskişehir, Müslüm Koyun, a candidate for the Green Left Party in the city, was also sent to prison.

The other people were released on condition of judicial control and house arrest.
