European Parliament remembered Sakine, Fidan and Leyla

Three Kurdish politicians Sakine Cansiz, a co-founder of the PKK (Kurdistan Workers Party), Fidan Doðan, representative of the KNK (Kurdistan National Congress) in Paris and Leyla Þaylemez who were found shot dead in the Kurdistan Information Office on 10 January were remembered at the meeting of the European Parliament (EP) whose January sessions started in Strasbourg on Monday.

The family of Fidan Doðan and Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) European Representative Faik Yaðýzay were also invited to the EP meeting which begun with one minute's silence for the three women. Group member MPs also conveyed their condolences and messages of solidarity to the families of the three Kurdish politicians.

European Parliament's (EP)Left Group Chair Gaby Zimmer expressed his sympathy to the families of the victims who he referred to as "our comrades". "The French government should shed light on this brutal killing and bring the perpetrators to justice. We will continue to support the freedom struggle of the Kurdish people more determinedly than ever. We are ready to do do our best to support the demands of Kurds", Zimmer said.

Zimmer asked Doðan's family to voice their expectations from the group and underlined that they will be doing their best for the clarification of the mass killing. Doðan's father Hasan Doðan asked the Left Group to do all they can to shed light on the killings.

EP President Martin Schultz also started the opening speech by remembering the three Kurdish women and said the massacre was as an "unacceptable savagery". Schultz made his speech looking at the Doðan family and saying; "I share the deep pain you have gone through with this massacre and offer my condolences to you".

Schultz said the French judiciary should find the killers and put them on trial and noted they belived the French government will be doing whatever necessary to shed light on the killings. Schultz added they found French President Holland's statements on the killings impeccable.
