Event in Indonesia as part of global days of action for ‘Freedom for Abdullah Öcalan’

On the anniversary of the global campaign launched a year ago demanding freedom for Abdullah Öcalan and a political solution to the Kurdish question, days action for freedom for the Kurdish leader are being organised all over the world.

On 6 October 2023, as part of the international campaign for the freedom of Abdullah Öcalan and the global days of action, a day of collective education was organised in the city of Jakarta in Indonesia on the initiative of the ‘ABC+ Kontrol Pekerja’ collective. Around 15 young people gathered to read texts on Öcalan's paradigm and watched videos produced by the Jineolojî academy.

The participants expressed in their statement that they "see Öcalan's position as our new leadership in terms of facing the needs of the paradigm, especially in terms of the approach to patriarchal domination, organisation and economy - the alternative that gave birth to the Rojava revolution".

They also stressed the importance of a good understanding of history: "Just because we live in the age of capitalist modernity does not mean that these old cultural values, old stories, local knowledge, old ideologies - politics are all obsolete and must be abandoned: studying the paradigm of democratic modernity actually encourages us to dialectically - historically re-learn the roots and mistakes of history, but not to repeat them as they were in the context of the space and time of that era, but rather to relocate them in our time today".

With regard to the situation in Indonesia, the activists emphasised the need to build a new popular front that "gradually adopts the values of the Öcalan paradigm". They noted that the importance of internationalist solidarity and understanding of revolutionary leadership will be discussed further next week.
