As Êzidîs living in Europe continue to protest the attack KDP peshmergas carried out on Shengal on March 3, Êzidîs in Brussels held a demonstration in front of the European Parliament building today to protest the KDP's attack on Shengal and the KDP-AKP collaboration. Demonstrators denounced that the weapons EU countries gave to the KDP for the fight against ISIS are being used against the Êzidîs in Shengal, and called for an immediate end to this aggression.
“THOSE WEAPONS ARE USED AGAINST ÊZIDÎS”
Shengal Diaspora Assembly President Fikret İgrek made a statement during the protest and recalled that the had KDP betrayed Êzidîs in 2014, saying; "Barzani withdrew 11 thousand forces that day. After the massacre, Êzidîs formed their defense units, YBŞ and the YJŞ in order to defend themselves. These forces gave a relentless fight against ISIS and liberated many areas in Shengal. Today, we are facing efforts to realize the plans initiated on August 3, 2014 on the basis of an AKP-KDP alliance. They want to massacre the Êzidîs in Shengal.”
“EU COUNTRIES SHOULD RECOGNIZE ÊZİDÎS”
İgrek recalled that the weapons Germany had given to the KDP for the fight against ISIS were used during the attack on Shengal, and continued: "Germany, a EU country, gave these weapons to KDP to fight against ISIS, not to attack Êzidîs.
We call on the EU and Germany to oppose these forces and to continue to abide by the decision the EU made on October 27, 2016 regarding Shengal's autonomy. We ask them to recognize the YBŞ and YJŞ as the defense force of Êzidîs, and to take action in order for the withdrawal of these gangs attacking Shengal. Our people should have the guarantee to live there freely. We condemn the attack on Shengal and we demand that the EU to accept our demands, to recognize the existence and autonomy of Êzidîs.”
Demonstrators handed out pamphlets in English and French condemning the attack on Shengal.
