Fahriye Ceylan released after spending 32 years in prison

Fahriye Ceylan had her release postponed 6 times by the Administrative and Observation Board. She eventually came out of Alanya Type L Closed Prison, on Monday, after 32 years in jail.

Fahriye Ceylan was held in Alanya Type L Closed Prison in Alanya. She was released on Monday after 32 years in jail. Ceylan was detained and sent to prison in 1992 in Amed and sentenced to life imprisonment by the State Security Court (DGM) for "disrupting the unity and integrity of the state".

Ceylan’s release was postponed 6 times. The woman was imprisoned when she was only 18 years old, and was held in jails in different cities, Amed, Êlih (Batman) and Adana, before being transferred to Alanya Type L Closed Prison. Ceylan could be released in January 2022. However, her release was postponed 6 times for different excuses, such as "not making a sincere statement", "not showing signs of remorse".

On Monday, Fahriye Ceylan was welcomed by her relatives, Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) and TUAYDER executives in front of the prison.
