Families of 3 guerrillas in Hakkari wait to retrieve remains of their children for 38 days

The remains of 3 guerrillas kept in Hakkari State Hospital have not been delivered to the families for 38 days despite the autopsy procedures having been completed.

According to guerrilla sources, 7 HPG and YJA-STAR fighters lost their lives as a result of clashes with the Turkish army between July and August in Hakkari and were brought to Hakkari State Hospital for autopsy procedures. Three of the 7 bodies kept in the hospital morgue have not been delivered to their families, who have been waiting for 38 days.

According to the information obtained, 5 of the 7 people who lost their lives were HPG guerrillas and 2 of them were YJA-STAR guerrillas.

It was learned that 2 HPG guerrillas and one YJA-STAR guerrilla, lost their lives as a result of the clashes that broke out in the Kazan Valley (Geliyê Tiyarê) area on 7 and 13 August. It was reported that the other 3 HPG guerrillas, and a YJA-STAR fighter, lost their lives in the 8-day-long clashes in the village of Anîtos and in the Busindi Mountain, in the Melunan region, Suvarê Bêriya and Çiyayê Berana areas on 9 and 17 August.

After the autopsy procedures, it was learned that the remains of the 7 guerrillas were kept in the morgue of the hospital for days. Citizens who went to the hospital for treatment said that the corpses were decomposing in the morgue because of a broken cold air system, but that no action was taken.

After 5 days, thanks to the efforts of civil society organizations, the cooling systems of the morgues were fixed.

Entry to the hospital morgue was forbidden by security guards and plainclothes police. Eventually, Cumhur Karuman, Zilan Duman and Ziyadin Onat were buried by their families in Hakkari and Van, while a person who could not be identified was buried in the cemetery of the nameless.

The bodies of 3 HPG fighters, who have been held in the morgue for 38 days, are yet to be delivered to their families despite autopsy procedures and identification having been completed.
