KCDK-E co-chair Yüksel Koç and Agit Ural’s families met with members of Die Linke in the Bundestag.

Die Linke deputy co-chair Martina Renner, and deputies Gökay Akbulut and Doris Achelwilm attended the meeting with the families of the two hunger strikers who have been fasting for 87 days in Strasbourg.

HDP former deputy Sibel Yiğitalp also attended the meeting in which the families told the German deputies about the condition of activists.

The families talked about the worsening health situation of the hunger strikers and said it was urgent to take action. In particular, Yüksel Koç's daughter Dilan Koç and Agit Ural's 9-year-old daughter, Tamara Ural, expressed concerns about their fathers.

Deputies: We will do more

Families confirmed that the hunger strikers are determined to continue the resistance despite the worsening of their health conditions. They stressed that the hunger strike has been launched to demand the end of isolation against Abdullah Öcalan. “Lifting the isolation in Imrali will open a different door to general politics in Turkey."

Die Linke party deputies said they were doing their best to make the voices of the hunger strike activists heard, and stressed that they will do more to get the German government and the public opinion to take action.

The deputies added that they would be able to organize a meeting in solidarity with the hunger strikers and they would bring the issue to the party executive board.

The families of activists on hunger strike in Strasbourg held a three-day vigil in front of the prime minister's office in Berlin last week and stated that the demands of the hunger strikers should be met as soon as possible.

Why the government is not responding to letters?

On 13 February, KCDK-E Yüksel Koç, sent a letter to German President Franz-Walter Steinmeier, Prime Minister Angela Merkel and Foreign Minister Heiko Maas on behalf of the hunger strikers in Strasbourg. The letters have not been answered yet.

Die Linke deputy Gökay Akbulut mentioned the comment by Andreas Michaelis from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs who had told him: “The KCDK-E is a roof organization close to the PKK in Europe and the PKK is banned in Germany”.

This is way, said Akbulut, the Federal Government has not answered the letters.
