The National Political Council of the Colombian political party FARC condemned the Turkish invasion attempt of Northern and Eastern Syria.
The FARC political party born from the former Colombian FARC-EP guerrilla after the signing of the Final Peace Agreement in November 2016, has issued a written statement in solidarity with the peoples of Northern and Eastern Syria.
The statement said: "We want to express our strongest condemnation and rejection of the premeditated aggression by the Turkish government against the northeast of Syria and against the Kurdish people.
There their autonomous authorities, under the name of Rojava, have been building a democratic system of ethnic coexistence , cultural and religious, in the midst of a complex international geo-political conflict."
The statement added: "We believe that the aggression against Rojava carried out by the President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and his jihadist militias, facilitated by the non-fulfillment of the commitments of the US government and its allies, has as main objective a genocide against the Kurdish people and a demographic change in the region, through the massive displacement of the local population, through massacres and war crimes against the civilian population."
The FARC added: "In our own experience, we believe that only through dialogue, agreements, solidarity and commitment of the international community, a stable peace will be possible in the region, and in that sense we want to express our support for the legitimate decisions of the Autonomous Administration of Rojava and the Syrian Democratic Forces in order to preserve the safety of its population."
The FARC ended their statement saying: "We have had knowledge, through social networks, of summary executions of prisoners and civilians, committed by members of the jihadist militias that act under the Turkish flag, therefore we call on the international community to act accordingly to avoid impunity of those criminal practices."
