FARC-EP declares unilateral ceasefire
The Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia's People Army (FARC-EP) has announced unilateral cease-fire and cessation of hostilities for 30 days, from December 15.
"When we took up the arms, we knew very well what kind of treatment we would receive of the Colombian terrorist State. That's why we have survived for half a century and we are able to resist as much as necessary. But we honestly believe that our country does not deserve this bleeding", Secretaritat of the Central High Command of the FARC-EP said in a statement released in the Cuban capital Havana where talks between FARC-EP and the Colombian government are being held for one year.
FARC at the same time ordered its units to "remain alert for any enemy operation" and to respond to these "without hesitation."
FARC said they hoped the government of President Juan Manuel Santos would match their gesture, and order a halt to their attack.
