FARC Party: We are committed to Peace

The FARC party has responded to the video by Ivan Marquez and his group announcing that they are taking up arms again by reiterating their commitment to peace.

Shortly before the video-announcement by former FARC commander and leader of the FARC-EP peace negotiation team in Havana, Ivan Marquez, that he is to take up arms again, the leader of the FARC party, Rodrigo Londoño, alias ‘Timochenko’, had said that most of the ex-combatants continue to support the peace agreement signed with the Government of the country in 2016.

“The great majority remain committed to the agreement, even with all the difficulties or dangers that are envisioned, we are with peace,” Timochenko said, adding that  “more than 90 percent of ex-combatants remain in the peace process.”

The official statement by the FARC party which followed the announcment by Ivan Marquez reiterated the commitment of the vast majority of guerrillas to peace and underlined the disagreemnent with the decision taken by Marquez and his group.

The Colombian senator Iván Cepeda also indicated that the announcement by Marquez does not mean the failure of the peace process but that it is a situation that calls on perseverance for the total and definitive construction of peace in the nation.
