A march was held in Lavrio, Greece to denounce the international conspiracy against Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan which led to his abduction from Kenya to Turkey on February 15, 1999. The Kurdish leader has been ekpt in total isolation on the prison island of Imralı in the Sea of Marmara since.
The march, organized by the Athens Kurdistan Cultural Center, started from the camp which hosts Kurdish refugees in the city and continued to the city center.
While the slogans "Bijî Serok Apo" (Long Live Leader Öcalan) and "Bijî PKK" (Long Live PKK) were chanted during the march, banners saying "Fight together for freedom of Leader Öcalan" in Greek and English were carried.
After the march, a press statement was made in the city square. The statement said that the isolation applied in Imrali means isolation of all Middle Eastern peoples. The statement pointed out that the Kurdish people and their friends stand up all over the world every day for the freedom of the Kurdish People's Leader and conveyed the message, “Freedom for Leader Öcalan, freedom for Kurdistan! With this understanding, we will be in resistance anytime, anywhere.”
