FEDA (Democratic Alevi Federation ) has released a statement to mark the 41st anniversary of the Maraş Massacre.

"This massacre has shown the bloody face of the republic".

The Democratic Alevi Federation reminded that the massacre began on 19 December 1978 and lasted for a week. At least 210 houses and 70 workplaces were burned down and demolished, including association and party buildings.

One of the witnesses, Hamit Kapan, said: "We have to add at least another 100 dead to the official number. In the hospital morgue we have counted at least 1306. Almost 80 percent of the Alevi and Kurdish population has been displaced."

After the Dersim Massacre, one of the worst massacres against the Alevi Kurds is said to be the Maraş Massacre.

FEDA underlined that the Alevi have resisted throughout history to all discrimination and attacks and will continue to do so.
