Fifth trial against Pınar Selek opens today in Istanbul

The fifth trial against sociologist Pınar Selek opens today in Istanbul.

Sociologist Pınar Selek is being prosecuted by the Turkish judiciary on charges of terrorism. She has already been acquitted four times, but a new trial against the 52-year-old opens today in Istanbul. She faces a life sentence for the explosion in the Egyptian Bazaar in Istanbul in 1998.

She was acquitted four times, but the judgments of acquittal were reversed each time.

Pınar Selek, who had been living in exile in France for many years, continued to be threatened in Turkey by arrest with immediate imprisonment. Today, as the first hearing of the new trial opens in Istanbul, she will be received by the City of Lyon and surrounded by more than 200 personalities who responded to the official invitation of the city, which protects and supports her.
