Operations launched in various areas declared “Special Security Zones” in Şırnak and its districts with hundreds of soldiers and village guards continue. They are focused in Kato Jîrka in the Beytüşşebap district and Gabar, Cudi and Besta areas and the bombings and artillery fire is causing large scale fires in forest areas.
The most widespread fires are in Cudi and Gabar mountains, and there is no intervention. For the last 4 days, hundreds of trees have been burnt to ashes in the Cudi area due to artillery fire from the Görümlü, Çalışkan and Hisar Gendarmerie Commando Battalions.
MILITARY OPERATION IN THE REGION CONTINUES
The first fires that broke out in Deriyê Cibrail, Sefine, Hesena and Gire Çolya areas in the region have now subsided after several days, but new fires are breaking out in Çağlayan (Şax) and Hisar (Hebler) areas due to artillery fire.
There is no intervention possible as the areas with the fires that can be clearly seen from the Cizre-Silopi road are barred for entry. In Gire Çolya area close to the ongoing fires, local sources say an operation has been launched with large numbers of soldiers.
HABITATS DISAPPEARING
Meanwhile, artillery fire the day before from the Görmeç Gendarmerie Commando Battalion have caused fires in the Geliyê Gurdila, Bîrava, Memurika and Zivingo areas in the Gabar Mountain region. The fires continue as reports come in that the habitat for several species have been partially burnt to ashes.
